TRANSCENDENCE

This is about a caveman named Ehd who lives in solitude after a fire killed his tribe.  One day as he checks his pit trap for animals, he finds a young woman trapped instead.  She's wearing strange clothing and making weird noise with her mouth, but Ehd decides this girl must be his mate, so he carries her back to his cave. 

The story is told entirely from Ehd's POV, and Ehd does not have the ability to understand language.  As a result, there is no dialogue between the two of them and he is unable to process anything she says to him.  As readers, we understand that she has somehow traveled from the future.  It's fascinating how much we learn about this girl simply through observing her actions as Ehd perceives them, even though we're never quite sure what she's saying.

After a long stretch of resistance and denial, she begins to accept this life she's been thrown into, and a touching relationship develops between them.  Ehd has such a refreshing sweet innocence, but he is also a strong hunter and protector who puts her well-being above all else.

There is a small, perfectly placed portion at the very end of the book that made me go back and re-read the story again.  And it was even better the second time.

This is one of the most unique books I've ever read and I would highly recommend it ***for adults only-- highly sexually explicit content***.
