HUNTLEY FITZPATRICK REVIEWS

MY LIFE NEXT DOOR

by Huntley Fitzpatrick

contemporary // mature young adult // romance

This is such a great, fun summer read.  I love Sam and Jase and the whole Garrett family. I thought I was done for when I saw how amazing Jase was with his little siblings AND found out that he has a sugar glider (!) but he just kept getting better and better.

It’s so good to finally read about a nice, well-adjusted guy instead of the overprotective, abusive train wrecks that are so popular in fiction lately.  There was no teen angst, no love triangle(!)— just intelligent, responsible, witty young adults who fall into a loving and trusting relationship.  How completely refreshing. They communicate with one another.  They made me laugh right out loud on several occasions.  I never wanted this book to end.  I would have happily kept reading for another four hundred pages.

As a former babysitter for a family of seven children, I feel that Fitzpatrick could not have been more spot-on with her descriptions of the chaotic but loving Garrett household. There is a different sort of laid-back chaos in these big families, and the children have such a heightened sense of responsibility and community— and it was all captured so perfectly.Oh my God I’m still laughing about Duff and the talking stick.
